FTA (Fault Tree Analysis)

FTA-Berechnung mit BQR Care

The FTA is a method of the reliability analysis with the goal to show those breakdowns that have a significant impact on the system performance at the intended use of a module/unit. With the FTA the unwanted event is predefined and all causes and combinations of causes that lead to the predefined event will be searched. FTA is used to determine reliability parameters, such as frequency of occurrence of the failure combinations or unwanted events such as unavailability of the system when required.

FTA is a deductive method (top to down). The FTA method enables to map a system to be viewed in a model that is analysable in quality and quantity in terms of the system failure behavior. The fault tree is a graphic account of the logical coherences that lead to a predefined event.

Technical Details

  • Treats hardware and software errors and occurence trees for calculating event probabilities and rates
  • Easy to change gatter types and varieties
  • Includes the following gatter types and varieties: K out of N, OR, OR-Markov, AND, AND-Stand by, AND-Network, priority AND, Not and XOR
  • Includes manifold events (general causes)
  • Supplies for all events a fast and accurate calculation with respect to the probability of occurrence and how often an event may occur
  • Generates generally customary reports of fault trees over several pages that can also be printed correspondingly
  • Fault trees in FTA can be created from existing system/project trees from modules or components but also from the functional FMECA-project tree and/or RBD
  • The properties of a fault tree can simply be displayed on the screen. The screen display of the fault tree can be expanded with and limited by -
  • Data, information can be exchanged in FTA by CARE and CAME modules via the native project database
  • FTA models are automatically generated from MTBF, FMECA, RBD and from CAME
